Amitai Bin-Nun is a Senior Research Scientist at Motional, where he works on creating a comprehensive framework to describe and implement desired AV behavior. His work centers on building industry and academic collaborations to assess the safety of automated driving. Previously, Amitai was Vice President, Autonomous Vehicles at SAFE, where he advised corporate and government leadership on the policy implications of emerging vehicle technologies. Amitai is a former Associate of the Harvard Kennedy School’s Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program.
Amitai is a technical expert on emerging transportation technology safety, with multiple pending patents and peer reviewed publications. At SAFE, his work and advocacy have shaped automated vehicle policy at all levels of government. He is also recognized for expertise on the societal impacts of automation.
Earlier in his career, Amitai served in the office of Senator Chris Coons and was a AAAS Fellow at the US Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. Amitai earned a Ph.D. in theoretical astrophysics at the University of Pennsylvania, where his thesis explored using black holes as a window into extra dimensions.
