Dr. Xiao currently serves as the Product Technical Manager and Valeo Expert in AI at Valeo North America in San Mateo, CA, where he leads a team specializing in machine learning within the R&D department of the Comfort Driving Assistance Systems (CDA) Product Group. He earned his Ph.D. in 2015, with a focus on image processing, computer vision, and machine learning. He has almost 10 years of R&D experience in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Autonomous Driving (AD) since 2014. He is also currently adjunct professor at San Jose State University. Throughout his career, Dr. Xiao has worked for car manufacturers, Tier One supplier, and AD startups, where he played a pivotal role in the successful development and deployment of systems currently in mass production.
Beyond his industrial contributions, previously he contributed to research initiatives sponsored by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), the Ministry of Education of China, and NSF China. Additionally, Dr. Xiao acts as an industrial consultant for a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) project in collaboration with Virginia Tech.
