John Lindland has 34 years of experience in all phases of design, manufacturing, and assembly for automotive, defense, tooling and equipment, and medical device clients. He was an international consultant for 21 years. He has a Masters in Manufacturing Systems Engineering from the University of Michigan. He has a Masters in Industrial Engineering from Wayne State University. His undergraduate is Electrical Engineering, Systems and Controls from Michigan Technological University. He served on the global functional safety steering committee for Fiat Chrysler Corporation for four years. He was also part of FCA’s functional safety working team. His 7FM techniques became FCA’s global methods. The methods were used to launch the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. 7FM and Quantum Quality were applied from concept designs through validation. There were no major validation failures. The timeline was 3 years and this includes a PHEV powertrain. The Pacifica launched 60% better in quality than any other minivan in the world. It’s PHEV powertrain remains in the top three in the world.
John joined TuSimple’s executive team in August 2018. He is currently Director of Quality and Functional Safety. He works to support all design teams.
John is the author of The Seven Failure Modes 7FM. His second book, Quantum Quality Matrix FMEA is in the final editing phase. Doug Betts, Senior VP of JD Powers has agreed to write the introduction.
