Oscar leads responsible for research, safety and security as well as marketing and sales at Validas. He is the host of a podcast about tool & library qualification. Oscar studied computer science at TU Munich with a phd in formal methods. He has now 30 years of experience in automotive and safety fields.

This talk dives into the requirements from ISO 26262 to tools, as well as the requirements on code coverage from ISO 26262. Recently the open source compilers (gcc and clang) have added features that allow to measure MCDC coverage which is required for ASIL D. In the talk we present how these new tool features can be used and qualified for usage in safety related project up to ASIL D. We will also present some results (findings and bug reports) from the qualification. Also, the google test framework (gtest) can be qualified for projects using a Validas Qualification Kit. In this session, you will learn that:

  • MCDC coverage is required for ASIL D, with specific tool and code coverage requirements
  • GCC and Clang now support MCDC measurement for safety-critical projects
  • Gtest and other tools can be qualified for ASIL D using the Validas Qualification Kit
